Tooth decay (holes in tooth enamel caused by acid from bacteria in dental plaque)

Tooth-brushing - Interdental hygiene - Fluoride use - Nutritional advice - Saliva measurement

Gingivitis (inflammation of the gums)

Tooth-brushing and interdental hygiene - Gum massage

Periodontitis (inflammation of the periodontium)

Prevention of the build-up of bacterial plaque (tooth-brushing and interdental hygiene - Mouthwashes)

Mucous membrane disorders

Smoking cessation, drugs counselling (alcohol, pharmaceuticals)

Prophylactic treatment is provided by the dental hygienist and dental assistant. It is provided once or twice a year, depending on the patient’s level of oral hygiene and tendency to build up plaque. The dental hygienist will take X-rays and check for tooth decay.
